Hyderabad: Trouble seems to be brewing in Telangana Congress with party leader G Harshvardhan Reddy openly defying the leadership’s diktat and proclaiming that he would contest the MLC election from Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates constituency, this after Congress candidate G Chinna Reddy, a former Minister, filed his nomination papers on Tuesday.
Harshvardhan Reddy, who has been campaigning vigorously in the constituency, wrote a letter to Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Uttam Kumar Reddy stating that he was contesting the Graduate MLC election.
“I have been fighting and protesting on behalf of teachers, pensioners, non-pensioners and the unemployed for the past two decades. Many pinned their hopes on me,” he said in the letter, arguing that he would not like to break their trust whatever may be the situation. “Even though you have asked me to withdraw, after much thought, I decided to stand by the unemployed, employees and teachers and fight for their rights,” he said.
Continuing with his electioneering on Wednesday, the Congress leader campaigned in different schools and colleges, including ZPHS, Shivaramaplly and Government Junior College, Shadnagar in Ranga Reddy. This defiance is likely to hit the Congress’ hopes of proving a point in the elections.
Meanwhile, in another development, former MP and senior leader Mallu Ravi set the cat among the pigeons when he said the “entire party cadre was backing A Revanth Reddy as Congress leader with many District Congress Committees even appealing to the latter to conduct Pada Yatra in their districts.” Former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLA Sitakka and others participated in the meeting.
