Hyderabad: Food served in a matka – an earthen pot – has a different taste and nostalgia attached. It takes us back to our roots and gives the food an earthy flavor. While all of us have tasted the quintessential matka kulfi or our favorite matka biryani, here is a restaurant that is serving pasta, maggi and brownie in a matka.
Started by Thora Aamuktha Sai Sree and Yelma Chethan, Mr Matka was born out of their quest to serve something different to patrons. The duo connected via social media and bonded over their love for food.
Mr Matka, which is quickly becoming a popular hangout spot in Hyderabad, was conceptualized by Aamuktha and Chethan who are from the same college, but never met there. They met through social media and then conceptual the eatery.
The main USP of this place located at 5th phase, KPHB Colony, is that all the dishes are cooked in matkas which has turned out to be a superhit concept in the city. The place offers variety of dishes like Pasta Makazza, Matka Chicken Maggi, Chocolate ice-cream sandwich, Kulhad Jonna Gatka, desserts like Pot Brownie, Matka Junnu, Bellam Dry fruit Pootharekulu, Palli Bobattu and Nuvulla Bobattu.
“I worked for an MNC Company for a year, but I thought business is something which suits me. I have seen my friend posting food recipes on Instagram which made me approach her and later we started with small bandi,” says Chethan who is 23-years-old.
The duo wanted to start something which is made in an eco-friendly way and that is how they choose matkas.
“We recently clubbed our service with Thick Shake factory. We moved from bandi to a store now which is a great achievement for us. We also take food orders online which has opened more opportunities for us,” adds Aamuktha who is 19-years-old.
“We also feel happy that we have given employment to some people and indirectly helped artisans by purchasing pots from them,” says Chethan.
