Two brain-dead victims give new lease of life to 6 persons
Families of two brain-dead men from Nellore and Nizamabad donated their organs under the Jeevandan program. Doctors retrieved three organs from each, including liver and kidneys, which were given to patients in need. Their selfless act gave others a new life
Hyderabad: The family members of two brain-dead individuals gave consent to donate organs of the deceased to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative. The surgeons retrieved three organs each from them, a press release on Sunday said.
Marella Abhilash, a 28-year-old software employee and a resident of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, was involved in a road accident when his two-wheeler hit a road divider on August 30. He was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad, where he was in the ICU and on ventilator support for several days. With his health not improving, the doctors declared him brain dead on September 6. The mother of deceased techie, Marella Sunitha, gave consent to donate his one liver and two kidneys.
In another instance, 33-year-old Burra Rajesh, a private employee and a resident of Dichpally, Nizamabad, was suffering from high blood pressure for the past two years. On September 5, he collapsed after experiencing a severe headache and was shifted to a private hospital and later to NIMS Hospital, Hyderabad.
With this health condition not improving, the doctors declared him brain dead on September 6. His wife, Burra Mounika, gave consent to donate his organs. The doctors retrieved one liver and two kidneys, which were allocated to needy patients.
