Sangareddy: In a rare honour, two villages – Haridaspur and Yeddumylaram in Sangareddy district have found a place in the Intermediate first-year interactive English textbook.
Haridaspur in Kondapur mandal was the first village to make all the eligible girls open accounts in Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana (SSY), a savings scheme launched by the Postal Department. Village sarpanch Mohammad Shafi donated the first installment of the premium with the help of philanthropists.
Inspired by Haridaspur, Yeddumailaram village in Kandi mandal also opened the SSY accounts in the names of all the girl children in the village. A comprehension passage titled ‘Save Girl Child! Save ManKind!’ has been included in the new Intermediate first-year book which was released by Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Thursday in Hyderabad.
Shafi and K Malla Reddy, sarpanches of Haridaspur and Yeddumailaram respectively, thanked the Telugu Academy for including the passage in their efforts in the textbook. Malla Reddy said this would inspire the younger generation to take such initiatives in the future.
