Uttam slams Modi for attempting to suppress farmers’ agitation in Delhi
The Central government did not even consult farmers before enacting the farm laws, he said, adding that the Congress will extend full support to the ryots on the farm laws issue
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for undemocratically attempting to suppress the farmers’ agitation in New Delhi.
Interacting with media persons in New Delhi along with the TPCC working president A. Revanth Reddy and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy sought to know from the Centre why it was resorting to such acts even as it claimed it was ready for talks with the farmers to sort out the issue.
The Central government did not even consult farmers before enacting the farm laws, he said, adding that the Congress will extend full support to the ryots on the farm laws issue. He said the Central government lacked commitment in ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers.
Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar gave misleading information when members sought clarification from him on the farm laws issue in Lok Sabha. About 50 per cent of farmers cultivating paddy were forced to sell their agriculture produce at low price, he said.
The TPCC chief demanded that the Centre come to the rescue of the striking farmers and resolve their issues immediately.
