Hyderabad: Have you ever felt like using Indian food emojis while texting your friends? Very soon you could! There’s a petition that’s gaining popularity right now on change.org called ‘Make Indian food emojis happen’. Every time you have a meal and want to text your peeps about it, you wouldn’t have to use a donut emoji for vada, a burger emoji for vada pav, or even a taco emoji for dosa. You can even have your own filter coffee emoji!
Preethi Kitchen, who started the petition, feels that when the real world is moving towards inclusivity of diverse cultures, the emoji world is stuck in the past. “It’s high time our Indian food has an emoji too. For us Indians, food is an emotion. And we would love to express our love for biryani or filter coffee with a yummy emoji. We are hungry for some emoji expressions of some of our favourite Indian dishes and it’s in your hands!” the company stated.
“Indian foods are equally tasty, rich in flavours, and very unique when compared to their Western and Eastern counterpart cuisines. Let’s have Indian food emojis,” said a petitioner. “We need our culture and taste to spread wide,” added another. “Badly need relatable emojis,” felt a petitioner.
The petition needs 7,500 signatures and so far 6,900 supporters have signed it.
