Rajanna-Sircilla: Vemulawada Agriculture Market Committee chairman Rondi Raju suffered injuries after unknown persons attacked him with knives in his native Nagaiahpalli of Vemulawada rural mandal early on Friday.
Police said old rivalry and disputes linked to the gram panchayat elections were suspected to be behind the attack.
According to officials, Raju was returning home after the completion of gram panchayat vote counting when unknown persons intercepted his vehicle near his house at around 2.30 am. As he got down, the assailants attacked him with knives and fled when Congress activists travelling with him raised an alarm.
Raju sustained injuries to his head and was shifted to Vemulawada Government Area Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
The police have registered a case and launched investigation.
