Mancherial: Labour Minister Dr G Vivek faced sharp criticism for allegedly carrying out publicity on the day of polling to Chennur municipality on Wednesday. Photographs of Vivek riding a motorcycle and canvassing in favour of Congress candidates at two polling stations in Chennur went viral on social media platforms.
In the photographs, Vivek, along with party nominees, was seen canvassing in support of Congress candidates at polling stations 4 and 5 in NP Wada in Chennur town at 12.15 pm, in full public view. The images were widely shared on WhatsApp groups and Facebook, with users accusing the minister of openly violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Users questioned whether the minister respected the Election Commission and criticised him for allegedly abusing power. They urged election officials to initiate action against Vivek, alleging that officials were showing bias against Opposition parties while indirectly supporting leaders of the ruling Congress.
Meanwhile, BRS district president Balka Suman staged a sit-in on a road in Chennur town, demanding action against Vivek for allegedly flouting the MCC. He said officials were not taking action despite the minister allegedly abusing power. In a separate incident, women protested against Peddinti Srinivas, accusing him of distributing cash to electors at a government school in Chennur.
