Khammam: As many as 3,550 Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs) and Village Revenue Officers (VROs) who qualified in the eligibility-cum-screening test for Grama Palana Officer (GPO) posts across Telangana are still waiting for appointment orders, nearly a month after the results were declared.
Earlier, the BRS government had abolished the VRO and VRA systems and redeployed those employees into various other departments. The Congress government, following the enactment of the Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2024, replacing the Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Passbooks Act, 2020, decided to appoint 10,954 GPOs, one for each revenue village.
District Collectors were directed to call for options from eligible VROs and VRAs, including those regularised and absorbed into the junior assistant/record assistant cadres. Based on this, a notification was issued on April 1, 2025, followed by the test conducted on May 25 and results announced on May 30. Appointment orders were expected on June 2.
Out of 5,060 candidates, 3,550 qualified. Despite the swift conduct of the exam and result declaration, the issuance of appointment orders has been delayed, leaving qualified candidates idle in offices awaiting their postings.
A qualified candidate, speaking to Telangana Today on condition of anonymity, said several VRAs who were promoted and posted to other districts under a randomisation process, such as those from Sangareddy posted in erstwhile Khammam, are now eager to return to their native places.
“After clearing the GPO test, many of us submitted options to return to our home districts, but the delay is causing hardship,” he said, adding that some are unable to secure school admissions for their children due to the uncertainty.
Leaders of the VRA JAC recently met CCLA Lokesh Kumar DS, urging the government to issue appointment orders. However, there has been no response yet.
“The government should act swiftly so that we can relocate and settle our families before the academic year progresses,” the candidate added.
