Wanaparthy: A six-member gang, including a police constable, that defrauded multiple banks by availing housing loans using forged documents, was busted by the district police. Notably, the ‘Bhadrata’ wing of the Telangana Police Department, which provides housing loans to policemen, was among those defrauded.

Disclosing the details, District Superintendent of Police R Giridhar told media persons on Monday that the gang was led by Bandaru Rakesh, a police constable who had been on long leave for over five years to pursue real estate ventures.

The gang included P Harish Kumar, T Mallesh, G Sandeep, S Sekhar, and B Kishore Kumar. Their modus operandi involved creating forged documents of properties and applying for housing loans from banks including Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), HDFC, LIC Housing Finance, and the Bhadrata wing.

In one instance, forged documents were created to show that a house owned by S Sekhar was being bought by Rakesh. Using these documents, loans amounting to Rs 89.3 lakh were raised from IOB, HDFC, LIC, and Bhadrata.

In another case, the gang fabricated documents suggesting that S Sekhar was purchasing a house from T Srinivasulu and obtained loans of Rs 57.59 lakh from HDFC and Bhadrata. The same house was later sold for Rs 40 lakh to one Pratap.

In a third case, forged documents were created in the name of one Swati to show the purchase of a house owned by Sivashankar. A loan of Rs 38 lakh was secured from LIC. The property was then sold to Arun Basha, and another ₹37 lakh was raised from Bhadrata.

In total, the gang fraudulently secured loans worth Rs 2.61 crore.

The Superintendent said the possible involvement of officials from banks and the Bhadrata wing would be thoroughly investigated. He appreciated the efforts of the investigating team, which included Wanaparthy CI M Krishnaiah, SIs Hariprasad, Ramaraju, Vijayakumar, and others.
