Karimnagar: “Kanoon ke haath bahut lambe hotey hai”! The famous filmi dialogue is not confined to reel world, but in real world too. The Karimnagar police have indeed proved this to be true.
In a true filmi style, a dedicated team of investigating officers of the Karimnagar Commissionerate hunted and nabbed a trickster who was underground for over 13 years evading the long arm of law. More than 40 non-bailable warrants were issued against the wanted person, identified as Kundana Srinivasa Rao who also went by alias names of Srinivas and Shashank Rao.
Srinivas Rao, the arrested man, is a highly educated person having done his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering and worked as a lecturer in well-known colleges in Karimnagar and other places. Perhaps feeling that the income he was earning through teaching was insufficient for leading a lavish life, Srinivas Rao abandoned himself to trickery and began his crime life by creating fake kisan vikas documents and obtaining loans from different banks by fraudulent means. He and his associates had taken loans to the tune of nearly one crore rupees, faced more than 40 criminal cases in Karimnagar, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Hyderabad and Guntur districts.
Way back in 2007, he was arrested by the Karimnagar district police and was remanded in judicial custody. He spent almost one year in jail and on release, he jumped bail and went underground in 2008. Very interestingly, he changed his name as Kura Shashank Rao and shifted to Hydeabad where he managed to get a fake Aadhaar card and PAN card and started working as a lecturer in private colleges. Three years later, he moved to Warangal and worked as a literature, Karimnagar Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy told newsmen here on Tuesday.
According to the Commissioner, his wife abandoned him and he moved to Vijayawada where he worked as a helper in a hotel. Misfortune struck him again when he met with an accident and broke his leg. Unable to earn any money he began begging near Alipiri in Tirupathi. This was where pilgrims from Nizamabad who went to Tirupathi identified him and informed his family members, who took him to Bengaluru and got him a job as a security guard.

Police search begins
Meanwhile, the Karimnagar police began a drive to serve the Non Bailable Warrants (NBWs) and Srinivas Rao’s NBWs came up for review. With the Commissioner of Police forming a special team to track the elusive man, serious efforts began. The team consisting of ASI Sujatha, Constable officers Krishna, Ramesh and Sampath began contacting all his relatives and kept a watch on his family members’ phones. The team managed to get information about the PAN cards of Srinivas Rao. From the information available on PAN, they searched the Aadhaar cards database and got his three registered phone numbers. But the team later learnt that he was not using any of the phones mentioned in Aadhar cards.
But the team did not lose hope. They continued their efforts and managed to get the IMEI numbers of the phones that were used with the identified numbers. Subsequently, they found that one of the phones with the identified IMEI number was in use and from there they zeroed in on him in Bengaluru. Having identified the geographical location of the wanted man, another crack team was formed to nab him. Inspector Suresh of Jammikunta station, a Forensic expert Murali, ASI Sujata constable officers Krishna Kumar, Ramesh and Sampath rushed to Bengaluru and began searching for him. Their two days efforts fructified on Tuesday, when they nabbed him and brought him to Karimnagar. Commissioner of Police Kamalasan Reddy appreciated the efforts of the investigating team.
