Warangal: Kakatiya University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Thatikonda Ramesh has urged faculty members of the government polytechnic colleges to keep themselves abreast with the latest trends in teaching and learn to help the students improve their employability skills. Addressing nearly 15 government polytechnic colleges English, Computers and Commercial Practice faculty at the inaugural programme of a three-week industrial training programme on the campus here on Monday, the VC has thanked Commissioner, Collegiate Education & Technical Education Navin Mittal for entrusting the responsibility of conducting the training programme for the polytechnic college staff to the Department of English. “This training programme is aimed at training the faculty to meet the needs of the industry as they in turn help the students gain the skills. The programme was designed in accordance with the vision of the New National Education Policy,” he added.
English department head P Nirmala said that they had chosen the resource persons from all the disciplines for edification of the participants on different topics ranging from communication skills with special focus on improving the writing skill related to journalistic writing besides soft skills, and interview technique. “The programme is intended to train the higher education teachers to furnish next generation teachers and industry-ready students and help generate more employability. It was indeed a tough task for us to select the right resource persons within a short span of two days and we are happy that we had made it,” she said,. The programme would be beneficial to the participants and to prepare the participants to make the students become industry-ready employees, innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders. Visiting faculty in the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Prof DS Kesava Rao and former Professor of KU Dr Madasbhushi Rajagopala Chary have also underscored the need for organising training programmes for teachers, and urged the participants to focus on acquiring knowledge in the latest teaching and learning methods besides working for their personality development. “Majority of the students are very good at subject knowledge but are failures in securing jobs due to poor communication or soft skills and stressed the need for more training programmes for teachers who will help the students,” Prof Chary added.
Dean Prof Banna Ailaiah, University colege principal Prof B Suresh Lal also spoke at the ceremony, while former KU Registrar Dr Kontham Purushotham, former Dean Dr Voordi Srinivas, Chairperson of Board of Studies Dr R Meghana Rao, Dr Deepa Jyothi were present.
