Warangal: In a major breakthrough, the Task Force police in association with Hanamkonda and Kakatiya University Campus (KUC) police have apprehended two owners of the educational consultancy services for allegedly producing fake Intermediate, Engineering, Degree certificates of different universities from both the Telugu States on Thursday, and three other accused are absconding.
The arrested have been identified as Gollapalli Rajendraprasad, owner of the Crest Educational Consultancy, Nayeem Nagar in Warangal, and Velna Naresh Rao, owner of Cloud Overseas Educational Consultancy, LB Nagar in Hyderabad.
Disclosing the details at a press conference here on Thursday, Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi said that the accused had created fake certificates of several universities at the request of the students who failed in the exams, but wanted to go abroad for higher studies. It is said that the accused, who were running the educational consultancies, had created 13 fake certificates of the Kakatiya University, Warangal, four certificates of JNTU, Hyderabad, one of the Andhra University, Vishakapatnam, two of Osmania University (OU), Hyderabad, and two Intermediate board certificates.
The accused are preparing the fake Intermediate , Engineering, Degree certificates to send the students to different countries for studies. Apart from this, they are also enhancing the percentage of marks by editing the marks memos issued by the Board of Intermediate and Universities so as to enable the students to get admissions into the prestigious universities of various countries including the UK, Australia, Canada, the USA and partially New-Zealand. The accused at large are Mohhamad Khaja Nayemuddin, Owner of Imperial Overseas Educational Consultants, Hanamkonda, Madadi Srikanth Reddy, owner of AEES Consultancy, and Kalikota Thirupathi. The police have seized a total of 22 fake certificates.
Modus Operandi (MO) of the fake certificate creators
The students who failed / detained in Engineering approach the consultancies for fake certificates, on payment of one lakh to four lakh rupees to the consultancy, the fake certificates will be prepared as desired by the students. With the fake certificates, the students may get admissions in colleges of different countries. As the consultancies are graded as level- I and level-II basing on the credibility by the universities in the UK, Australia, Canada and also U.S.A, the consultancies are cashing in on the situation with corrupt practices.
Editing of the Marks Memos for the UK
The candidates who are aspiring for admission in U.K shall have 75 per cent and above marks in English of Intermediate second year. Keeping this in view, the students who have failed to secure desired percentage will approach the consultancies basing on that the consultancies will enhance the percentage of marks by editing the Memos.
On the other hand, the consultants are also fabricating the certificates of the backlogs of the students to acquire admission in to the respective universities and also apply for visa with the same documents.
For instance, B.Tech students with four years of programme where they are issued with seven memos if he/she clears the subjects without fail, where as if he/she fails several times he/she will get more memos, for example if he fails more times, he will get more memos, which is not permitted in Australia and it will be a hurdle for the student to get admission for that the consultancies will reduce the number of backlogs (memos) by editing i.e showing that the student had cleared them in single attempt. While Hanamkonda police have arrested Gollapalli Rajendraprasad, KUC police have arrested Velna Naresh Rao.
Under the supervision of Additional DCP Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad, Task Force Inspectors Ch Srinivas Ji, and others have participated in the raids over the educational consultancies and nabbed the accused.
Fake certificates haunt universities
The fake certificates menace has been haunting universities in Telangana for long despite several security features introduced over the years. However, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) now wants to end it forever with the help of technology.
A meeting in this regard was also held on January 7 in Hyderabad, and decided to use the services of the digital lockers where potential employers or foreign varsities can check the veracity of the certificates online itself bypassing the cumbersome process of personal visits to campuses.
The digitisation and storage in digital lockers will be done for all the degree, post graduate and research courses as these are mostly sought-after for employment in India and abroad apart from the rising number of students going overseas for higher education. The Osmania University has reportedly detected more than 100 fake certificates when employers sought verification in the past three years.
