Watch: Low-lying areas in Suryapet inundated due to heavy rain

Suryapet: Sri Ram Nagar, Manasa Nagar, Vinayak Nagar, Krishna Colony, VRDR Srinivas Colony, Gopalapuram and R K gardens colony in Suryapet were inundated following heavy rain since last night.
With Chowdari Cheruvu, an irrigation tank, overflowing, the nala at S V College in Suryapet breached resulting in flood water inundating RK gardens colony. Low-lying areas of Sri Ram Nagar, Manasa Nagar, Vinayak Nagar and Krishna Colony were also inundated inconvenience to the residents of the area.
Municipal authorities swung into action and took up measures to divert the flood water and prevent it from reaching residential areas. Municipal Commissioner Ramanjaneyulu rushed to R K gardens colony and monitored the situation. Municipal workers used a JCB to dig out a path for the water to be diverted. They also removed waste from the nalas to prevent overflow.
Meanwhile, a swollen nala was almost flowing over a bridge near Jammigadda in the town. In the last 24 hours, Suryapet mandal witnessed the highest rainfall of 145.8 mm in the district. The remaining 17 mandals in the district witnessed moderate to light rainfall. About 12 cm of rainfall was reported in Suryapet town.
Kattangur mandal in Nalgonda district was also affected as several irrigation tanks were overflowing.
