Hyderabad: Following heavy rains in the city and suburbs, Hussain Sagar is getting steady inflows and the water level crossed the full tank level on Tuesday evening.
At 6 pm, the water level at Hussain Sagar was recorded at 513.59 m against the FTL of 513.41 m. Officials said there was no need to panic and said the situation was under control.
As heavy rains lashed several areas in the city, the lakes wing of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took up measures like clearing the trash accumulated at the entry and outlet nalas of different lakes to facilitate free flow of water downstream.
Machinery and trash collectors were deployed at Hussain Sagar surplus nala near Buddha Bhavan office and all the silt and trash accumulated at the downstream exit point was cleared, said an official from GHMC.
The outflow points at Shahtam Talab were also cleared to ensure free flow of water downstream towards Nayaqila talab, the official said. Similar measures were taken up at Fox Sagar, Ramanthapur lake and other water bodies across the municipal corporation limits, officials informed.
243 rain-related complaints
The heavy rains on Tuesday had the GHMC till 5 pm receiving 234 complaints from different areas with 125 pertaining to drainage overflow, 35 on water logging and 24 regarding tree falling and others.
Residents in few colonies of Cherlapally, Mallapur, Moula Ali had tough times with rain water entering into their houses since last evening. Residents pumped out the water using buckets and utensils for major part of the night.
With rain water entering into Mir Alam Mandi in the old city, GHMC workers were deployed immediately to clear the stagnated water from the market.
The Saroornagar-Saidabad road was covered with knee-deep water while complaints of tree falling were lodged from Laxminagar, Moosarambagh, Leela Nagar, Ameerpet and few other areas.
For rescue and relief measures, the civic body’s EVDM wing deployed 19 teams at different areas, including Ameerpet, Nagole, Abids, Mehdipatnam, Forum Mall, Goshamahal, CM camp office, Dilsukhnagar, Miyapur Metro station, ECIL, Secunderabad and other places.
