Khammam/Mulugu: Widespread rainfall lashed erstwhile Khammam and Mulugu districts in the past 24 hours, with Mangapet in Mulugu district recording 18.5 cm on Monday.
Heavy downpour caused streams and rivulets to overflow in Mulugu, where electricity poles were uprooted and trees fell at several places. Standing crops were submerged as floodwaters entered fields in multiple mandals. Eturunagaram and Venkatapuram received 15.9 cm and 11.8 cm rainfall respectively.
Rainwater also entered houses in several colonies, while low-lying areas in Kamalapuram were inundated in waist-deep water. Mulugu SP Dr Shabarish P advised residents of low-lying areas and those living along the banks of river Godavari to stay alert. He said SDRF and DDRF teams were on standby to tackle emergencies and urged the public to dial 100 for assistance.
The Godavari’s water level at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district rose to 38.20 feet by 7 pm. The first warning level is 43 feet. The Sabari river was also rising at Kunavaram, with floodwaters reaching Naracheerala in Parnasala.
In Mahabubabad district, tanks and roads were overflowing in several places, causing problems for farmers and travellers. A breach occurred at Peddacheruvu in Vennaram village of Dornakal mandal. Irrigation AEs Kishan and Hardika inspected the site and initiated repairs.
