Warangal Urban: Tarun Joshi took charge as the new police commissioner of the Warangal police commissionerate here on Wednesday.
Listing out his priorities at a press conference here, Dr Tarun Joshi, a dental doctor before being selected to the IPS, said he would lay special focus the outlawed CPI Maoists activities besides taking steps to check the other crimes.
“I will focus on checking the crime as well as regulating the traffic in Warangal city along with maintaining law and order. I will also ensure that the upcoming local body elections (GWMC) would be held in free and fair manner,” Joshi, A 2004 batch IPS officer, said.
Earlier in the day, the new police commissioner received a guard of honour by armed police on his arrival at the commissionerate office. After taking charge, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police has called on IG P Pramod Kumar.
Tarun Joshi was holding the post of Joint Commissioner, Special Branch, Hyderabad, before his transfer as the police commissioner, Warangal. Joshi worked as ASP of Godavarikhani and Adilabad and as OSD in Warangal. He also worked as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Visakhapatnam in the combined Andhra Pradesh.
Passionate about mountaineering, Joshi has scaled several mountains, including Mount Aconcagua (6,962 metres), Argentina, the highest peak in South America, Vinson Massif (4,897-meter) in Antarctica, Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895-meter), the highest peak on the African continent.
P Pramod Kumar had been in-charge of Warangal Police Commissionerate since June 30, 2020. Pramod Kumar took full additional charge of Warangal Commissionerate after the superannuation of Dr V Ravinder.
