Hyderabad: The Medipally Police have registered a criminal case against a woman for allegedly obtaining a Rs 10 lakh personal loan from the State Bank of India (SBI) by submitting forged salary slips and other fabricated documents.

The suspect, identified as Pratibha, applied for a personal loan under SBI’s Express Credit Scheme at the bank’s Parvathapur branch in April 2023. She allegedly claimed to be working as a Senior Nursing Officer at the ESIC Super Specialty Hospital in Sanathnagar and furnished Aadhaar, PAN card and four months’ salary slips in support of her application.

Following this, the bank sanctioned a Rs 10 lakh loan with a repayment period of 72 months after processing the documents.

However, the alleged fraud came to light after the borrower defaulted on the loan repayments. The account was classified as a Non-Performing Asset (NPA) in April 2025, prompting the bank to conduct an internal verification.

The inquiry reportedly revealed that the salary slips submitted for the loan were forged and that there were inconsistencies in the PAN card details. Based on these findings, SBI classified the loan account as a fraud account.

In its complaint, the bank stated that it incurred a loss of Rs 8.9 lakh, comprising an outstanding principal of Rs 7.95 lakh and accrued interest of Rs 1.02 lakh.

Following a complaint filed by the management, a case of cheating and forgery was booked and is being investigated. No arrests have been reported so far.
