Hyderabad: A trolley bag used to dispose of a woman’s body turned out to be the crucial clue that helped the Bachupally police identify and arrest Vijay Topa, the key suspect in the murder of Tara Bohra (33).
Announcing the arrest on Friday, police officials said both the victim and the accused were natives of Nepal and had met on Facebook, where their friendship blossomed into an extramarital relationship. Vijay brought Tara, who was married and had two children, to Hyderabad in April this year.
They were living together in a rented house in Bowrampet, and Tara later became pregnant. However, Vijay reportedly pressured her to abort the child, leading to frequent quarrels.
Following one such argument, on May 23, Vijay allegedly strangled Tara with a nylon rope, killing her. The next day, he purchased a trolley bag from a store in Kukatpally, stuffed her body into it, and dumped it in a secluded area inside Vijaya Durga Owners Association Colony in Bachupally.
Locals discovered the bag on June 4 and alerted the police.
Police formed five special teams to investigate the case, scouring CCTV footage from over 70 luggage stores in the area. The breakthrough came when one store provided footage of Vijay purchasing the trolley bag. He was arrested from Bowrampet on Thursday.
