Women students at Koti university fall prey to phone hacking; cybercrime unit steps in

Hyderabad: A cyber fraud incident has come to light at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University, Koti, formerly Osmania University Women’s College, where several students reportedly fell victim to a phone hacking scam.
As per reports, cyber fraudsters allegedly hacked into the mobile phones of students, gaining unauthorised access to their personal data, chats, and media files. It is suspected that the data breach was used to threaten and blackmail the students, creating panic on campus.
The victims lodged formal complaints with the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that the fraudsters may have used phishing links and malicious apps to compromise the phones. Cybercrime teams are analysing the digital trail.
