Karimnagar: Tension prevailed in Duddenapalli of Saidapur mandal on Tuesday after a youngster, Boragalla Raju, climbed a mobile tower and threatened to end his life over a land dispute with his neighbour.
According to villagers, Raju became upset after his neighbour, Sanjeev, sold a portion of his house site to another person instead of selling it to him.
Agitated by the sale, Raju climbed the cell tower and warned that he would jump off if no one addressed his grievance. Villagers said that though it was not a legal requirement, it was a common rural practice to first inform neighbours when selling a house site or agricultural land. Only if they declined to buy, owners usually proceeded to sell to others.
Despite repeated appeals from family members and villagers, Raju initially refused to come down. He accused local elders, revenue officials and police of ignoring his issue and alleged that villagers Lingaswamy and Sanjeev were conspiring to kill him.
Police rushed to the scene and after prolonged counselling, managed to convince Raju to come down safely.
