To get wider attention and build a strong digital presence, Laxmi, Shirisha, Mounika Yadav and Mamidi Mounika did just that! They have taken the YouTube route to taste success. And rendition of their folk songs started to create a buzz and caught the attention of many. The four singers not only wowed all with their singing but also earned massive acclaim from millions of listeners.
The rising singing stars have now become sensations with more than 20 superhit videos (combined) on the platform. Carving out a niche for themselves, they are a rage with the millennials.
The number of clicks for their video songs reached over 1,000 million (1 billion) – that’s how many views their combined popular 20 songs have raked in on YouTube until now – due to their powerhouse performances. Now, that’s a whopping number not heard or seen before in YouTube history. This is rare for any artiste who doesn’t have a robust social media profile, a publicist, or a financial backer. It is because of the content and their mellifluous voice that their songs are resonating with people.
With voices that seem like a full orchestra, they have established a connection with the audience. Rendering folk songs in a raw voice, they have found their way into the hearts of music buffs, mesmerising them. At the heart of their music is the folk aesthetic.
There is no dearth of talented folk artistes in Telangana and thanks to social media, such unrecognised talents are now getting the attention they deserve.
Here are the best songs by the four singers who pulled off a seemingly impossible feat:
Singer Laxmi’s two songs ‘Thinna Thiram Paduthale’ (92 million views) and ‘Anademanantina Thirupathi’ (41 million views) became her fastest hits due to their amazing tunes. With her other hit ‘O Bava Saidulu’ (15 million views) with Gaddam Ramesh, she just tasted more success. The foot-tapping songs beg you to get grooving.
Tons of cover performances of her song ‘Thinna Thiram Paduthale’ have hit YouTube and social media, with the trend chasers making the original singer Laxmi more famous and more popular.
Associated with mega hits like ‘Yeme Pilla’ (151 million views), ‘Bavalla Na Bavalla’ (34 million), ‘Podi Podi Vana’ (52 million), ‘Athagarintiki Kothagavothunna’ (48 million) and ‘Tikku Taku Tikku’ (45 million) is the unforgettable voice of singer Shirisha. After hearing her hits, listeners can’t stop praising her beautiful vocals and compelling lyrics. At many programmes, crowds at the packed houses went crazy as she crooned her top tracks. You just can’t stop dancing as Shirisha takes the stage.
Mounika Yadav, who got the great opportunity to sing the Telugu version ‘Saami Saami’ in the just-released Allu Arjun-starrer “Pushpa: The Rise”, was a No. 1 hit for her ‘Ramula O Ramula’ (112 million) and ‘Bava O Sari Raava’ (60 million views), and occupied the coveted top spot on the internet for a long time. Just three months ago, on a TV programme, Mounika reignited the songs’ popularity, further gaining numbers.
Another folk singer who has also become increasingly prominent on YouTube platform over the last two years with full-of-energy voice is Mamidi Mounika. The prolific singer’s songs ‘Madhana Sundhari’ (57 million views), ‘Nenostha Bava’ (24 million) with SV Mallikteja and ‘Unguram’ (26 million) with Kummari Durgavva have marked her also as one of the notable rising talents.
Credit will also definitely go to Matla Thirupathi, SV Mallikteja, Gaddam Ramesh, GL Namdev, Madeen SK and Narasimhan Elamadri for catchy lyrics, exciting music composition and direction. All have made a rich contribution in making their songs very big hits.
All the four singers, with their entirely original voices, caught the eyes of millions and gained popularity and stardom in the process. It’s only a matter of time before Telugu cinema beckons the most prolific musical talents. They are here to stay.
