Sangareddy: Expressing disappointment over the delay in completing the second dose of vaccination, Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao instructed the Health department officials in Sangareddy district to complete the second jab for adults immediately besides expediting the vaccination for people aged between 15 and 18 years. He asked them to make arrangements for booster dose for people aged 60 and above which will be probably commenced from January 10.
When the officials told him only 191 teens aged between 15 and 18 had taken the vaccination on January 3 out of 82 625 teenage population, Rao expressed shock and asked them to speed up the vaccination drive for teens. He suggested them to visit the colleges to complete the vaccination of this age group.
Asking the Health department officials to take the help of Sarpapnchs, MPTCs, ZPTC, MPPs and other elected representatives to expedite the vaccination process in the district, Rao said that the government will send one lakh home isolation kits and two lakh testing kits to Sangareddy as a host of cases of Omicron variant of Covid-19 were expected to be reported in January.
When enquired about the progress of the vaccination, DM&HO Dr Gayathri said that they had completed 100 percent vaccination of the first dose, but could complete only 54 percent of the second dose so far out of 11.83 lakh eligible for vaccination.
When Dr Gayathri said 1.23 lakhs people were due to take the second dose, the Health Minister expressed disappointment for the lethargic attitude of the officials. Since the vaccinated people had less possibility of getting infected with the Omicron variant, Rao asked the officials to complete the vaccination of the second dose by setting targets to Asha workers and ANMs.
Addressing the Zilla Parishad General body meeting of Sangareddy on Tuesday, the Minister said that there is every possibility that the Covid-19 cases may peak during the January and February months. However, he said the third wave would last for one and half months unlike the first wave and second wave.
He has also directed the district administration to keep all the hospitals, ICUs, testing machinery, ventilators, Oxygen Plants and others to keep ready to face the third wave. However, Rao has clarified that not many would need hospitalisation even if they were infected with the Omicron variant. But, he has directed the officials to test the people who were suffering from fever or cold or any other symptoms so that they can arrest the spread of the virus early. Saying that strict home isolation is a must for the infected, Rao asked them to assign Asha workers to keep a close watch on positive patients to check whether they were taking regular medicine besides strictly maintaining the home isolation.
Legislative Council Chairperson V Bhupal Reddy, MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson P Manjusri, Collector M Hanumantha Rao, MLC Ragotham Reddy, MLAs G Mahipal reddy, M Bhupal Reddy, Chanti Kranthi Kiran, K Manik Rao, Additional Collector Rajharshi Sha and others were present.
