Mancherial: Eleven persons were taken into custody on charges of treasure hunt at a residence in Bheemini. A crowbar, spade, sickle, two bamboo baskets and four gold plated nails were recovered from them. Three more accused are absconding.
Producing them before the media in Thandur on Monday, Bellampalli Assistant Commissioner Adla Mahesh said the accused were identified as Shaik Rasheed and Pardhan Anjaiah, daily wagers of Peddapet village in Bheemini mandal, Muttiveni Satyanarayana, a farmer from Polampalli village in Kannepalli mandal, Chedam Nagesh, and Thatla Sagar, farmers of Chintapalli village in Tiryani mandal, Madavi Daulath Rao, and Dasari Venkatesh belonging to Tiryani mandal centre, Peddala Shankaraiah, daily wager of Mokkampalli village in Kannepalli mandal, Pettam Shankar, a resident of Perkapalli village in Tiryani mandal and Borkut Shankar, a daily wager of Gerre village in Dahegaon mandal.
Gundaiah, Swamy and Shravan are still at large.
During the interrogation, Rasheed confessed to the crime and formed a gang of 10 others who were familiar with treasure hunting. He revealed that he had dug a three-foot-deep trench to discover the treasure at his residence on November 18. He disclosed that they performed certain rituals as part of the treasure hunt again on December 10.
Shaik Akbar, a neighbour of Rasheed informed police about the treasure hunt. Bheemini police, in turn, booked a case and took up investigations. The eleven were found to have been involved in the treasure hunt. They were arrested and produced before a court. They were sent to judicial remand.
The ACP requested the public not to fall prey to fake promises of persons who claim to know about hidden treasures. He urged them to share information on such cheats with the police.
