Mancherial: As many as 45 miners were killed, while 745 workers sustained critical wounds and 755 had minor injuries in 38 accidents reported at underground mines and opencast projects (OCPs) belonging to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) located in six districts from 2017 to 2021.

As per data available with the State-owned coal company, the mines located in Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Prof Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Peddapalli, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts saw a decline in the quantum of mishaps. But, the accidents continue to claim the lives of the miners, as indicated by the information.


As many as 11 accidents were reported in the mines and OCPs, resulting in the death of 12 coal miners, serious wounds to 213 workmen, injuries to 213 employees in 2017. Seven miners were killed, 190 staffers received critical injuries and 191 suffered minor injuries in seven mishaps registered in 2018. In 2020, the mines and projects saw nine accidents, causing deaths to 12 miners and serious injuries to 98 employees and injuries to 102 workers.

Mancherial district alone houses six OCPs and 13 underground mines situated in three Areas namely Srirampur, Mandamarri and Bellampalli.
