Adilabad: BJP legislator Payal Shankar is mired in a controversy after information emerged about his alleged occupation of government land and the sale of assigned land by converting it into house sites. Documents pertaining to the alleged occupation went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday.

As per the documents, it is alleged that Shankar encroached upon three acres of land near an under-construction Integrated District Officers Complex at Battisavargaon village in Adilabad Rural mandal. Since the land is situated close to land assigned to his wife Uma, he was accused of occupying the government property.

Similarly, the MLA is also accused of selling assigned land by converting it into house sites. An order was issued prohibiting the alienation of the land. However, Shankar allegedly managed to transfer the property using a no-objection certificate obtained in the past. The market value of the house sites is estimated at around Rs 5 crore.

Meanwhile, BRS cadres demanded that the government take action against Shankar and probe the allegations. They urged officials to conduct a survey of the land and disclose whether it belonged to the government. They alleged that Shankar was occupying government land at will. They also charged that he was transferring the land to his wife.
