Adilabad: Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said school students could play a vital role in promoting road safety norms and preventing cyber crimes if they were actively involved in awareness and enforcement efforts. He formally launched ‘Khaki Kids’, a first-of-its-kind initiative involving schoolchildren aimed at strengthening adherence to traffic rules and curbing cyber crimes, at the ‘Arrive Alive’ programme held here on Saturday.
Explaining the objective of the initiative, Akhil Mahajan said Khaki Kids was designed to reduce road accidents as well as cyber crimes by empowering students through awareness and participation. As part of the programme, a police constable from a nearby police station would visit three schools every week and conduct awareness sessions on road safety and cyber crime prevention. Students who successfully completed the awareness programme would be designated as Khaki Kids, enabling them to act as ambassadors of safety in their communities.
He said participants would be issued badges by the police department in recognition of their role and encouraged them to spread awareness among family members and neighbours about the importance of road safety norms and cyber security. Seeking their active cooperation, the SP expressed confidence that the initiative would help bring down road accidents and related casualties, as well as strengthen efforts to prevent cyber offences.
Additional SP (Admin) P Mounika, Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy and others were present.
