Hyderabad: The All-India Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations (AIJACTO) urged the Central government to intervene in the Supreme Court judgment which mandates that all in-service teachers appointed prior to the RTE Act implementation must qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within two years or face removal from service. This ruling is set to impact approximately 30 lakh teachers across the country.
The AIJACTO said the government should provide protection to senior teachers’ jobs, even if it requires legislative amendments. They also called for relaxations in the TET syllabus and qualifying marks to address the concerns of affected educators.
The AIJACTO representatives on Friday met Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan and submitted a representation. Citing the Union Minister, the AIJACTO said the Central government was in consultation with legal experts to explore ways to overcome the issue. However, he did not provide a specific assurance about resolving the issue.
AIJACTO steering Committee members CN Bharati, Chava Ravi, Katti Narasimha Reddy, Basavaraj Gurikar, and Kamala Kant Tripathi were among those who met the Union Minister.
