35 teacher unions in Telangana protest over pending demands
Thirty-five teacher unions in Telangana protested, demanding service rule implementation, filling of vacant DEO and MEO posts, release of pending bills, and Pay Revision Commission implementation. They also supported the February 5 Parliament march against mandatory TET certification for in-service teachers.
Hyderabad: As many as 35 teacher unions in the State here on Thursday joined hands to launch a protest demanding the Telangana Congress government resolve their pending demands.
The unions demanded the immediate issuance of service rules as per PO-2018 and the filling of vacant posts of DEOs, deputy DEOs, and MEOs to address the ongoing crisis in the school education sector.
The teacher bodies wanted the government to sanction new DEO posts for newly formed districts, one deputy DEO post for each assembly constituency, and MEO posts for newly created mandals.
Expressing concern over financial delays, the teacher unions’ representatives demanded the government’s immediate release of pending bills and dearness allowance arrears. Criticising the government for failing to initiate the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) process even after 30 months, teachers demanded that the PRC report be obtained immediately and after discussions with teacher unions, a reasonable fitment be implemented with retrospective effect from July 1, 2023.
Teachers also sought cashless medical treatment through health cards, extension of the Employees Health Scheme to teachers of all managements, and justice for teachers affected by GO 317.
Meanwhile, the teacher unions extended support to the Parliament march scheduled for February 5 over the issue of mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certification for in-service teachers.
PRTU TS president P Damodar Reddy, TS UTF president Chava Ravi, STU president G Sadanandam Goud, and representatives of TRTF, TPTF, DTF, TSGHMA, BCTA, PTATG, SC/ST teacher unions, and several other associations, participated in the meeting.
