Hyderabad: All Anganwadi centres running in the rented buildings would be shifted and operated on the government primary schools premises and soon a special drive would be taken up, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Women and Child Development Minister Satyavathi Rathod, said.
During a meeting convened with officials of Women and Child Welfare, and School Education Departments to discuss joint operations of Anganwadi centres and government primary schools here on Thursday, the Ministers said of the total 35,700 Aganwadi centres, 15,167 were already operating on primary schools premises.
As many as 11,185 centres have their own buildings and another 12,174 were functioning in the buildings without rent, while 12,219 centres were running in rented buildings, they said. The State government as a means to strengthen Anganwadi centres was operating them in the government primary schools premises.
The move comes in wake of the government’s efforts to extend nursery education apart from providing nutritious food through Anganwadi centres. This will help students prepare for primary education after completing nursery, they said.
