Hyderabad: For non-compliance with anti-ragging regulations, 2009, the University Grants Commission (UGC) served a show cause notice on Osmania Medical College (OMC) here.

In a notice recently issued, UGC Secretary Prof Manish R Joshi sought to know why appropriate action should not be initiated against the institution for non-compliance with the UGC regulations. As per the UGC, Osmania Medical College with an intake of 250 seats did not fill in the anti-ragging undertakings in 2024.

The UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009, mandates that every student and their parents/guardians must submit an anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission and the beginning of every academic year.

This undertaking according to the UGC is a crucial measure to prevent and deter any incidents of ragging within educational institutions.

Overall, the UGC served notices on 18 medical colleges, including the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry, in the country for their failure to secure undertakings from students.

The UGC asked the institutions to submit a written explanation within seven days from the date of receipt of the notice, detailing the reasons for the lapse and the steps intended to rectify the situation.
