Mancherial: A day-long bandh called by the BRS-CPI alliance in protest against alleged misconduct by Congress councillors towards women councillors is being peacefully observed by different sections in Kyathanpalli on Wednesday.
Commercial establishments and educational institutions remained closed, while various people’s organisations extended solidarity to the protest and the mandate of electors. Roads in Kyathanpalli wore a deserted look. BRS and CPI leaders were placed under house arrest as a preventive measure, while AITUC leader V Seetharamaiah was detained. The bandh was progressing peacefully, according to reports reaching here.
Meanwhile, heavy police deployment was made at the residence of BRS district president Balka Suman in Kyathanpalli to take him into custody. Former councillor Domakonda Anil was already arrested in connection with an unlawful assembly and rioting case, in which Balka Suman and six other leaders were booked at Kyathanpalli in Chennur on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, Balka Suman and six other leaders were booked for alleged unlawful assembly, rioting, causing grievous injuries , and disobedience of an order when Labour Minister Dr G Vivek and Peddapalli MP GVamshikrishna were on their way to attend a special meeting to elect the chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality.
Earlier, amid a ruckus created by Congress councillors, the much-awaited election of chairperson and vice-chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality was once again postponed until further orders, even though sufficient quorum was present at a special meeting held to conduct the process on Tuesday. Congress activists pelted stones at BRS leaders, resulting in tension. The election was postponed on Monday due to lack of quorum.
