Mahabubabad: Students of Zilla Parishad Girls’ High School at Bayyaram mandal headquarters in the district took to the streets on Thursday, demanding the State government appoint a social teacher for their school.
They staged a dharna on the main road in support of their demand. Speaking to the media the students said that there has been no social teacher in the school and not a single lesson has been taught since the beginning of the current academic year.
The students studying tenth class questioned how they could achieve 100 percent pass rate if social lessons were not taught. They said that they had requested the authorities to appoint a social teacher many times, but in vain.
They expressed their concern that they were not able to prepare for Summative Assessment-1 exams that would be held after Dasara holidays and feared failing Class X board exams due to the absence of a social teacher. The District Collector and DEO should respond immediately and address the issue, they added.
Former ZP chairperson Angoth Bindu interacted with the protesting students and inquired about the problem. She spoke to the DEO over phone and asked the official to resolve the matter at the earliest.
The issue would be taken to the notice of the Collector to get it addressed, she said, while the students’ parents alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who holds the education portfolio, was playing with the lives of the students by failing to address lapses in the schools.
