Blocked sluices cause inundation of colony in Khajaguda
Hyderabad: Nearly 450 families of Green Grace Residents Society in Khajaguda of Serilingampally are worried a lot as they struggle to contend with three-foot deep water that has inundated their level-two basement during the heavy downpour that lashed the city recently. Water logging in the 14-storey apartment has damaged the lifts, forcing residents to deploy motors and pump out the rain water. The residents here panicked as they feared whether the building can withstand the force of the flood water.
For the past three-days, the families here did not have access to power supply and potable water, said RSV Badrinath, society managing committee member. According to Badrinath, the building is linked to 150-feet road in Khajaguda by an approach road.
Both sides of the approach road were earmarked as water bodies called Thouthoni Kunta, which is originally linked to Bhagiratamma Lake towards the south of the building near Rama Naidu studios. Whenever the Kunta is full, excess water flows naturally to Bhagiratamma Lake via sluices provided under the 150-feet road.
According to the residents, the sluices were blocked and the nala leading to Bhagiratamma Lake was also encroached. “This led to water stagnating in Thouthoni Kunta. Owing to this, diseases like malaria and dengue are spreading in the apartment and adjacent area,” the residents said.
The society members brought the matter to the notice of Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, who rushed to the area to assist the families. They also submitted a memorandum to the Chief-Engineer of Hyderabad Road Development Corporation to resolve the issue.
