Mancherial: Dongre Mamatha, a daily earner’s daughter from a Scheduled Caste and belonging to Tungeda village in Rebbena is struggling to realise her dream of pursuing a medicine course, even as she scored well in National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) under the SC category, due to poor financial background of her parents.
Mamatha excelled in the National Entrance Test by securing 512 marks as against the total of 720 marks. She got 2,514th rank in the entrance which saw the participation of around 16 lakh students belonging to several parts of the country. Despite her significant show in the entrance, she is now uncertain whether she can enrol her name.
“Even if I get a seat in a government-run medical college, I need to pay around Rs 30,000 per annum towards some fees and expenditures including stationery. My parents cannot bear the cost. Allocation of seats would be held in the last week of November. I am anxious about my future,” Mamatha told Telangana Today.
The elder daughter of Kishtaiah said that her ambition was to become gynaecologist and to serve the rural women, who were still deprived of better maternity services. She stated that she scored 9 CGPA in the results of Class X and 962 marks out of the total 1,000 in the Intermediate course. She studied at a Telangana Social Welfare Residential Centre of Excellence-Alugunur in Karimnagar.
Mamatha had completed primary schooling at her native place and studied from Class VI to VII at a social welfare school in Kaghaznagar. Meanwhile, her illiterate parents Kishtaiah and Eshwarmamma requested philanthropists and good Samaritans to come forward to sponsor her education. “We are unable to bear expenses involved in pursuing the medicine course for our daughter. We urge philanthropists of the district and neighbouring districts to extend financial aid to fulfil her dream,” they pleaded.
