BRS, Congress once again lock horns for chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality
The battle for the chairperson post of Kyathanpalli municipality has reignited tensions between the BRS-CPI alliance and the Congress. After being postponed due to chaos in February, the elections are now set for April 4. The BRS, with its majority, is confident of victory, while Congress is strategising to regain ground.

Mancherial: The BRS and Congress have once again locked horns for securing the post of chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality, which is going to see the election of the chairperson on Saturday.
The election of the chairperson and vice-chairperson was postponed amid a ruckus allegedly created by the Congress councillors on February 17.
The State Election Commission recently issued an order to conduct the polls on April 4. It decided to hold the polls based on reports submitted by the Collector and Deputy Commissioner of Police who cited favorable conditions to organise the process.
The BRS-CPI alliance, which won 14 wards, was all set to capture the throne of the municipality. However, the Congress which was confined to seven wards lured the councillors from the BRS reportedly by promising developmental projects, but in vain. Its councillors allegedly assaulted the women councillors of the alliance prompting officials to postpone elections on February 16.
The BRS district president Balka Suman expressed confidence in securing the chairperson of Kyathanpalli municipality with the help of absolute majority achieved by the alliance. He said that the Congress must honor the mandate given by the electors and extend its support to conduct the process of elections. He stated that the hurdles created by the Congress to stall elections were prevented by the State Elections Commission.
Labour minister Dr G Vivek is leaving no stone unturned to get the power and to control damage caused by the defeat for the Congress in municipal elections. He is said to have devised strategies to win the post of chairperson. Cadres of the party exuded confidence in accomplishing the mission.
However, elections to the governing council of Kyathanpalli civic body have become the talk of the town. People of the town have their fingers crossed over the outcome of the elections. All eyes are on the elections that draw attention to many following conflicts between the BRS and Congress. Security was heightened to prevent untoward incidents in view of the elections.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements were made for smooth conduct of the elections. Additional Collector P Chandraiah visited the municipality and instructed the officials to make necessary arrangements on Thursday. He asked them to ensure seating facilities, security for councilors. Barricades were erected to prevent gathering of crowds.
