Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar demanded the immediate arrest of BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind and TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy for their actions that damaged the prestige and self-respect of the Telangana Police. He said the Congress government was undermining the police force and called for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s resignation as Home Minister.
Citing attacks on BRS cadres during municipal polls at Miryalaguda and other places on Wednesday, he expressed concern over possible attempts to intimidate or abduct BRS candidates, and sought police protection for the same ahead of results declaration on Friday.
Speaking to media after submitting a representation to Additional Director General of Police Mahesh Bhagwat at the DGP’s office here on Thursday, Praveen Kumar pointed to the misbehaviour of Jagga Reddy, who used vulgar language against police personnel in Sangareddy. It was unacceptable for a senior Congress leader to publicly abuse officers, including a decorated policeman who had received the President’s Gallantry Award. He questioned why no suo motu case was registered despite violations near polling stations.
“Jagga Reddy took rowdy sheeters like Abbas from Hyderabad to Sangareddy while polling was underway and abused police officers on duty. But there has been no action against him. Similarly, MP Arvind Dharmapuri has not been arrested, despite his actions,” he said, adding that the government was applying different standards depending on the political affiliation of those involved.
The BRS leader also cited previous instances including the arrest of journalists for allegedly telecasting false reports against a female IAS officer. He pointed to the government targeting the BRS leaders and social media activists with false cases, despite the courts pulling up the State in several instances.
“While the Congress government in neighbouring Karnataka is issuing guidelines against filing unlawful cases based on the Supreme Court verdict, the Telangana Congress government failed to implement similar safeguards,” he said.
He accused certain officials linked to the Chief Minister’s Office of spreading misinformation against BRS leaders through social media platforms and private communication entities. He said documentary evidence had been submitted to the DGP seeking legal action.
Contrasting the present regime with the previous BRS government, Praveen Kumar said the police force had enjoyed greater respect and institutional support under K Chandrashekhar Rao. He cited investments in infrastructure and modernisation besides increased salaries and initiatives like SHE Teams for improved safety. Alleging that the current administration was eroding morale within the force, he urged authorities to act impartially and protect the dignity of police personnel.
