BRS government shelved Pyaranagar dump yard following farmers appeal
Farmers of Gummadidala, who accompanied Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, said the BRS government had stopped the move to set up the dump yard when the farmers had opposed the proposal
BRS leaders led by MLAs V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, ,Chintha Prabhakar are presenting representation to DRO Padmaja Rani, demanding government to scrap Pyaranagar dump yard in Sangareddy district
Sangareddy: While the JAC which is fighting against the setting up of Pyaranagar dump yard, had enforced bandh in Narsapur and Gummadidala, BRS leaders led by Narsapur MLA V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy submitted a representation to Sanagreddy Collector Valluru Kranthi demanding that the government scrap the proposed dump yard on Thursday.
Farmers of Gummadidala, who accompanied Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, said the BRS government had stopped the move to set up the dump yard when the farmers had opposed the proposal.
When the GHMC came up with the proposal, the farmers said that they took up the issue with then Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who asked them GHMC to shelve the project.
The farmers of Gummadidala mandal said that they had lost 10,000 acres of land to Dundigal Airforce Academy, another 5,000 acres of land to the DRDO. Since they had just 5,000 acres of cultivable land, the farmers lamented the proposed garbage would now adversely affect the environment leaving nothing for their future generations.
Speaking to reporters later, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy urged the government to set up an urban park or an industry to create employment to locals in place of a dump yard in the 152 acres of land.
Though the high court ordered a status quo on setting up dump yard, the Narsapur MLA said that the GHMC was building an approach road to the proposed site and cutting down trees in the forest. She said the same forest department refused to allow the panchayath department to lay a road to Pyaranagar village until now, but now they were taking no action against the GHMC.
The BRS MLA said that she would even approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to get the government to stop the dump yard. She said that the BRS would lead the agitation till the government halted the project.
Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar, BRS leaders Bal Reddy, Adarsh Reddy, Goverdhan Reddy, Buchi Reddy and others were present. The shop owners in Gummadidala and Narsapur voluntarily closed the business establishment until after supporting the farmers bandh call.
