BRS holds Congress reponsible for pending irrigation projects, water crisis in Telangana
"We built the Palamuru-Rangareddy project at a cost of Rs 34,000 crore and finished around 90 per cent works. Instead of completing the pending works and providing irrigation water, the Congress has sidelined it," he said, criticising the ruling party for failing to allocate funds for its completion
Wanaparthy: Former Minister and senior BRS leader S Niranjan Reddy charged the Congress government with neglecting Telangana’s irrigation projects and misleading the public on water issues. He questioned the government’s failure to complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, despite its critical role in addressing the State’s water needs.
“We built the Palamuru-Rangareddy project at a cost of Rs 34,000 crore and finished around 90 per cent works. Instead of completing the pending works and providing irrigation water, the Congress has sidelined it,” he said, criticising the ruling party for failing to allocate funds for its completion.
Addressing the mediapersons in Wanaparthy on Friday, Niranjan Reddy said the leaders from Congress, BJP, and TDP have remained silent on Telangana’s projects for their political interests. He slammed the Revanth Reddy government for spreading falsehoods about water supply from the project, while deliberately stalling its completion.
“They claim Telangana is not receiving adequate water, yet they refuse to clear pending contractor bills. Without funds, how will the project be completed?” he questioned.
The former Agriculture Minister dismissed Congress government’s corruption allegations as false propaganda, reminding that Hyderabad too is now benefiting from Kaleshwaram project water.
He called out the government’s inaction on Andhra Pradesh’s illegal usage of Krishna river water, stating that the neighbouring State had diverted around 660 TMC this monsoon, while Revanth Reddy remained silent.
Niranjan Reddy charged the Congress with failing on every electoral promise – from pension hikes to Rythu Bharosa – leading to farmer suicides, auto driver deaths, and student distress.
He challenged the Ministers for a public debate on unfulfilled promises, asserting that BRS had elevated Telangana’s per capita income to Rs 3.26 lakh and transformed rural livelihoods.
“No matter the misinformation against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the previous BRS government, people know the truth,” he declared, reiterating that the party would continue fighting for Telangana’s rights.
