Hyderabad: BRS leader P Karthik Reddy on Wednesday warned of launching an indefinite hunger strike if the Congress government fails to release Rythu Bharosa assistance to farmers of the erstwhile Rangareddy district within a week. Alleging discrimination, he demanded an explanation from the State government over the exclusion of farmers in the district from the benefit scheme.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, Karthik Reddy questioned whether the farmers were being punished for not voting for the Congress in the last Assembly elections. “While the government is eager to acquire agricultural lands in the district for development projects, it shows no willingness to support the farmers who cultivate them,” he said.
He pointed out that the erstwhile Rangareddy district ranks next only to Gurugram in terms of highest per capita income in the country, yet the Congress government continues to discriminate against it in terms of development and welfare schemes.
The BRS leader also alleged bias in Cabinet representation and criticised the government’s inaction on its poll promises, particularly those concerning GO 111. Drawing a contrast between current and previous regimes, he said, “Former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao cared for farmers like a mother, while Revanth Reddy is giving them stepmotherly treatment.”
