BRS leaders accuse Khammam police of bias, demand action
BRS leaders in Khammam have accused local police officers of acting in favour of the ruling Congress party by filing false cases against their workers. The controversy intensified after Banoth Ravi, a tribal leader and Army veteran, allegedly attempted suicide due to harassment.

Khammam: The followers of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have been unleashing anarchy in Palair Assembly constituency, alleged the district BRS leaders.
The party MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, BRS district president Tata Madhusudhan, former MLAs Sandra Venkataveeraiah, Kandala Upender Reddy, Banoth Chandravathi, former ZP chairman Lingala Kamal Raju and others have strongly condemned filing of false cases against the party cadres by police.
The leaders called on the Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt here on Tuesday and submitted a petition demanding action against the police officials who were acting as agents of the ruling Congress party.
Speaking to the media Upender Reddy stated that BRS Tirumalayapalem mandal party vice president and social media wing president, Banoth Ravi alias Army Ravi was compelled to attempt suicide because of the harassment by Congress party leaders and the police. The BRS would not remain quiet and teach a fitting lesson to Congress, he warned.
Madhusudhan complained that the Congress leaders targetted Ravi, a tribal leader who worked in the Army, for exposing the ruling party’s failures. It was sad that some police officers were acting like Congress workers and supporting the ruling party leaders.
Minister Srinivas Reddy’s relative Tumburu Dayakar Reddy who was unauthorisedly hoisting the national flag in government offices and holding review meetings with government officials. With the help of ACP (Rural) Tirupati Reddy and Tirumalayapalem SI Kuchipudi Jagadish he was implicating the BRS cadres if they questioned his misdeeds, he said.
The BRS leadership would not spare any police officer who was harassing BRS cadres and booking false cases against them. Serious protests would be staged against the Congress and police officers who were supporting them, he warned.
Banoth Ravi, who was first admitted to Government General Hospital in Khammam, was later shifted to a private hospital for better treatment. His health was said to be stable.
