Khammam: District BRS leaders have strongly condemned the Congress government’s act of demolishing houses of poor families living on Bhoodan lands on the outskirts of Khammam city.
MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former MP Nama Nageswara Rao and former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, in separate statements here on Tuesday, found fault with the government for throwing 600 families onto the roads along with children and elders.
The Congress leaders repeatedly boast about their Indiramma rajyam in Telangana, but in fact the government was working against the poor. If the government has sympathy for poor people, it should immediately grant pattas to the deserving families, Ravichandra said.
Nageswara Rao lamented that it was sad to throw families onto the road without providing alternative housing in advance. The poor built houses with debt and hard-earned money, and demolishing them would break their hearts. The government needs to act responsibly, he said.
Ajay Kumar said that the demolition of houses of the poor shows the arrogance of the government. It was extremely unfortunate that the houses were demolished to benefit some private individuals at the orders of Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao.
The close associates of the minister and real estate traders had laid eyes on the Bhoodan lands and planned to occupy them by evicting the poor with heavy police force in an inhuman manner, he alleged.

Meanwhile, the police detained BRS district president Tata Madhusudhan, senior leader Gundala Krishna and others who were going to meet the affected families at Vinoba Navodaya Colony and took them to the Two Town police station.
The leaders staged a protest at the police station, raising slogans against the district ministers and the Congress government. Madhusudhan demanded that the government do justice to the affected families.
