Hyderabad: BRS leaders levelled serious allegations against AICC secretary and former Congress MLA Sampath Kumar, demanding that the State government order a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into his alleged land encroachments, threats, extortion and abuse of power.
Addressing a press meet at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, former TGMDC chairman Manne Krishank said a private firm, Sri Bhramara Infrastructure, had lodged a complaint against Sampath Kumar and his aides, stating they were threatened with deadly weapons. He also accused Sampath Kumar of registering assigned land in his wife’s name despite recently, after declaring no land in his affidavit. He stated that the Congress leader also forced officials to award tenders and contracts to companies linked to his family.
“After the Congress came to power, Sampath Kumar pressured the officials to award a contract of the 100-bed government hospital to his son’s company Globen. But the company had not paid salaries to the staff for last nine months,” he said, asking whether the government, which formed an SIT against opposition leaders and journalists, would initiate a similar inquiry against a Congress leader.
He said Sampath Kumar who lost the 2023 Assembly election by 40,000 votes, had been acting like a Minister and intimidating officials, contractors and local businesses, turning Alampur constituency into his personal fiefdom.
BRS MLA Vijayudu said Sampath Kumar was demanding Rs 8 crore from contractors executing works on National Highway-44 and threatening officials who refused bribes. He stated that the BRS would submit all evidence to a SIT if constituted, insisting that the allegations involve large-scale corruption, land grabbing and misuse of authority.
