Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan criticised the Congress government for denying the Muslim community in Borabanda and Yousufguda a graveyard, calling it a basic human right. He demanded the immediate allotment of 2.16 acres of vacant government land in Yousufguda village, adjacent to Peeli Dargah, for a Muslim burial ground.
“A graveyard is not a luxury, it is humanity. Denying it is to deny dignity in death, which amounts to violation of the Constitution,” he said, invoking Articles 14, 15, 21, and 25.
Sravan, along with members of the Muslim community, submitted a representation to the Hyderabad Additional Collector on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, he noted that residents have been petitioning since 2018, while official records already classified the land as vacant. “The government is deliberately neglecting the issue, causing unnecessary anxiety to elderly community members worried about their final resting place. This is unbearable cruelty,” he said.
He also condemned false FIRs filed against Masjid Committee members demanding land after Jumma Namaz, terming it an attack on minorities. “Instead of addressing their grief, the government criminalised their voice,” he added.
Recalling that over 125 acres were allotted for Muslim graveyards under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s regime, Sravan accused the Congress of reducing minority issues to files and excuses. He warned that unless the land is allotted before the Jubilee Hills by-election code comes into force, people will see it as a deliberate betrayal.
