BRS MLC Kavitha urges Centre to clear BC reservation Bills in Telangana
Meets Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, urges Presidential assent for Telangana’s BC reservation Bills. She emphasises the need for 42% quotas in education, jobs, and governance, citing long-standing underrepresentation and growing public support across the State
Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha has urged Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale to take the lead in securing Presidential assent for the Backward Classes (BC) reservation Bills passed by the Telangana Assembly.
During her meeting with Athawale at her residence in Hyderabad on Friday, Kavitha submitted a formal request, stressing the need to approve the two pending Bills to implement 42 per cent reservation for BCs in education, employment, and local bodies. They also discussed various activities being organised by Telangana Jagruthi to mobilise like-minded forces to intensify the fight for BC reservations.
Kavitha pointed out that although the Telangana Assembly and Council had passed the Bills and forwarded them to the President, there has been no progress on their approval. She said the BC communities played a key role in shaping society over the generations, but their representation in governance remained low, especially in local bodies. She cited the long-fought battles by BCs for population-based representation in politics, employment, and educational opportunities.
Accordingly, she stated that Telangana Jagruthi has been holding roundtable meetings and peaceful agitations across the State to demand justice for BCs. She called the demand for 42 per cent reservation fair and necessary for equitable development.
She requested the Union Minister to support the cause and push for early approval. Several leaders and activists from Telangana Jagruthi and the United Phule Front were also present.
