Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan targeted the Congress government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over large-scale fiscal mismanagement, reckless borrowings and deceptive budgeting which was pushing Telangana into a debt crisis.

In an open letter to the Chief Minister, Sravan alleged that the government’s claims of “Telangana Rising” and building a “$3 trillion economy” stood exposed by the Comptroller and Auditor General report for 2025-26.

He said the State’s finances deteriorated sharply under the Congress regime, with the government relying on borrowings even to meet routine expenditure.

Sravan pointed out that against the budget estimate of Rs 2.29 lakh crore in revenue receipts, the government could realise only Rs 1.81 lakh crore, a nearly 20 per cent shortfall. He alleged that several major revenue streams underperformed during the year. He also questioned the fall in excise collections despite widespread liquor outlets, and raised suspicions of an illegal liquor syndicate causing revenue leakage.

Further, the BRS MLC called Revanth Reddy as the Borrowing King and alleged that the Congress government exceeded the approved limit of Rs 54,009 crore, raising borrowings and liabilities of Rs 77,762 crore during the financial year.

He also ridiculed Revanth Reddy’s repeated visits to Delhi, pointing out that Telangana secured only Rs 10,422 crore in grants-in-aid against the estimated Rs 22,782 crore.

“Your Bade Bhai diplomacy turned out to be a hollow failure and resulted in less than half of what the State is owed, leaving our social sectors starving,” he remarked.

He accused the Congress government of mortgaging Telangana’s future through reckless borrowing, and sought an explanation on the State’s financial condition.

Sravan said while Revanth Reddy indulged in high-profile publicity to complement the Union’s $40 trillion goal and praised the ‘Gujarat Model’, the State finances demonstrated his lack of economic vision.

“You clearly fail to understand how Telangana has emerged as a role model state under the leadership of K Chandrashekhar Rao. On every indicator, Telangana had surpassed the so-called Gujarat model that you applaud merely to please Narendra Modi, further exposing your economic hollowness,” he said, adding that Telangana’s vibrant economy was suffering badly under the Congress regime.
