Hyderabad: BRS leader Manne Krishank on Saturday strongly objected to Minister D Sridhar Babu’s statement in the Assembly proposing the merger of Secunderabad Cantonment Board into Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation.

Questioning the lack of public consultation and disregard for citizens’ sentiment, he demanded the immediate withdrawal of the statement in the Assembly.

In a statement, Krishank said over 1.31 lakh residents had already expressed support through a signature campaign for merging the Cantonment with GHMC, not Malkajgiri. He termed the government’s move undemocratic and accused it of ignoring a long-standing public demand.

The BRS leader raised concerns stating that the proposal ignored Secunderabad’s historical identity as part of the twin cities and was announced without consultations with residents, stakeholders or civil society.

“Such a major administrative decision cannot be taken unilaterally,” he said.

Krishank demanded that the government initiate a transparent public consultation process and align its decision accordingly. Instead of Malkajgiri, he suggested that the government consider the merger of Secunderabad Cantonment Board into GHMC.
