Hyderabad: Senior BRS leaders have filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission and Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer against the Congress government’s Media Director, Sriram Karri, alleging a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the Jubilee Hills bypoll.
BRS leaders Chirumilla Rakesh Kumar, K Vasudeva Reddy, and K Saidi Reddy accused Sriram Karri, a serving public servant, of openly promoting the Congress and its candidate through his verified X handle, even after the MCC came into effect on October 6. According to MCC provisions, all government officers must maintain political neutrality and refrain from engaging in political campaigning or endorsements.
The BRS leaders alleged that Sriram Karri misused his official position for partisan activities, undermining the neutrality expected of government officials. They urged the Election Commission to conduct an inquiry, suspend him from his duties pending investigation, and preserve his social media records. They also stressed that Karri’s conduct damaged institutional credibility and distorted electoral fairness in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. The BRS leaders further called for a new advisory prohibiting government authorities from engaging in such actions.
