Hyderabad: Ahead of the State government’s plan to table the Justice PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram project in the Assembly scheduled to commence on Saturday, the BRS has demanded an opportunity to present facts before the House and the people.
A delegation led by former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, along with BRS whip KP Vivekananda and MLAs D Sudheer Reddy and Mutha Gopal, approached the Speaker’s office seeking permission to make a detailed presentation on the project. With the Speaker unavailable, they submitted a request for an appointment.
Addressing a press conference at the BRS Legislature Party office, Prashanth Reddy said the party had a responsibility to protect Telangana’s interests and counter misinformation. He pointed out that the Kaleshwaram project was the lifeline of Telangana. “It has prevented drought and provided irrigation to nearly 20 lakh acres even after the Congress came to power. Yet, Congress and BJP are spreading false propaganda by claiming no water has been given,” he said.
The BRS legislator dismissed allegations of structural failure at Medigadda barrage, stating that only two piers got damaged, while the barrage withstood the recent massive floods. He dared the Congress and the BJP leaders to visit the barrage along with them for inspection in this regard. He criticised TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud for commenting on the project even as the Ghose Commission’s report remained in a sealed cover.
“We reject the report. We have not been given a chance to defend under Section 8B of the Commission of Inquiries Act. We are already fighting this in court,” he said.
Prshanth Reddy asserted that if the government refuses to give them an opportunity for a presentation in the Assembly to explain the project’s benefits with evidence and technical details, it would be seen as biased. “We request the Speaker to permit us. If he gives an appointment, a representation will be submitted on Friday,” he added.
