Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior MLA Gangula Kamalakar on Wednesday questioned the Congress government’s inaction in a Rs 1,000 crore scam in the Civil Supplies department. He said the BRS would file complaints with the Enforcement Directorate and other investigative agencies on Monday seeking action.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, he alleged that tenders were floated to sell 35 lakh metric tonnes of paddy for Rs 7,600 crore, but the process remained incomplete despite the 90-day deadline having lapsed. He said bidders quoted Rs 2,007 per quintal but collected Rs 2,230 from millers, siphoning off nearly Rs 1,000 crore and involving top politicians and officials in the government. He said the State government failed to act against violators and was instead trying to refund the deposits.
The BRS leader slammed the government for not cancelling the tenders even after repeated violations and for attempting to refund money to defaulters instead of penalising them.
“We approached various agencies, raised the issue in the Assembly, and even moved the High Court, which directed the government to file a counter 15 times. But there’s complete silence,” he said, adding that the government was intentionally delaying counter affidavits.
Kamalakar also questioned silence of BJP leaders including Union Ministers Bandi Sanjay and G Kishan Reddy. He suspected a Congress-BJP collusion in one of the biggest scams.
Former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy said financial transactions worth Rs 410 crore between bidders and millers were documented. He said the BRS had all evidence which were submitted to the court.
“If the government is clean, why avoid court orders?” he asked.
